Dominance in Primetime
Week two of
THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL on Thursday, Sept. 22 featuring the
New England Patriots beating the Houston Texans 27-0 was seen on an average
minute audience basis by 17.9 million viewers across all
platforms, including the CBS Television Network, the NFL Network, Twitter, NFL
Digital and CBS Interactive.
THURSDAY NIGHT
FOOTBALL is produced by CBS Sports. CBS sells and airs all national commercials
for CBS THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL games across every platform, creating
incremental value and distribution for CBS clients and sponsors.
Last night’s
telecast on CBS and NFL Network scored increases in ratings and viewership from
last year’s comparable game (Washington-N.Y. Giants; 9/24/15). Houston-New
England was seen by an average of 17.5 million television
viewers, up +4% (16.9 million in 2015) and
earned a national household rating/share of 10.6/19, up from a
10.5/18, according to Nielsen live plus same day national ratings. New
England’s 27-0 victory over Houston delivered a+14% increase in
viewership from last week’s TNF match-up that featured the Jets beating the
Bills 37-31.
Television
viewership of the Houston-New England game peaked at 19.4 million viewers
with a rating/share of11.7/20 from 9:00-9:30 PM, ET.
TNF on CBS and
NFL Network continues to win in primetime, handily beating the other networks.
CBS/NFL Network’s primetime viewership for Premiere Week Thursday Night of 16.3 million was +318% better
than FOX (3.9m), +159% better than NBC (6.3m) and +155% better
than ABC 6.4m).
In total, CBS
and NFL Network’s coverage of Houston-New England was watched in all-or-part by 50.5 millionviewers
on television, with a minimum of one minute viewed.
The average
digital audience for week two of the THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL game across Twitter,
NFL Mobile from Verizon, Watch NFL Network, NFL Game Pass (International) and
authenticated users on CBS Digital platforms was 398,000. In total, all digital
properties showing THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL reached 2.5 million viewers.
In total,
Twitter reached 2.6 million combined worldwide viewers for the NFL Thursday
Night Kickoff pregame show and the Patriots/Texans game for a minimum of three
seconds with that video being 100% in view. For the Thursday Night Football
game alone, Twitter reached 2.2 million viewers. The average audience (AMA)
watching Thursday Night Football on Twitter properties was 327,000 up +34% vs
last week’s game (Jets vs. Bills), which was Twitter's first-week airing
#TNF.
