19 NFL PLAYERS TO PARTICIPATE IN NFL SPORTS JOURNALISM & RADIO BOOT CAMP

Program to be hosted at Bowling Green State University

Nineteen current and former NFL players are taking part in the fifth-annual NFL Sports Journalism and Radio Boot Camp April 19-22 at Bowling Green State University (BGSU) in Ohio. This is one of several programs developed by NFL Player Engagement to prepare current and former players for post-NFL careers.

The four-day boot camp focuses on improving players’ written and oral commentary skills for print, radio and the expanding digital media industry. Players will receive training and tips through a variety of panel discussions and interactive workshops led by top sports journalists and radio hosts, talent development experts and BGSU faculty.

“The Sports Journalism and Radio Boot Camp is one of many career and professional development programs offered by NFL Player Engagement designed to prepare players for life after football,” said ARTHUR MCAFEE, Senior Vice President of NFL Player Engagement. “Throughout the four-day program, players will build relationships and further develop the skills necessary to succeed in the sports media industry.”

Panelists include NFL Senior Vice President of Officiating DEAN BLANDINO, CBS anchor JAMES BROWN, Director of National Sports Journalism Center and former New York Times writer MALCOLM MORAN, and former NFL player turned journalist ALAN GRANT of ESPN The Magazine columnist.

Throughout the week, participants will also take part in interactive breakout sessions and mock press conferences with veteran NFL Game Official BOB WAGGONER and BGSU Head Football Coach MIKE JINKS. Additionally, industry experts will provide players with one-on-one career mentoring and assistance.

This is one of several career and professional development programs NFL Player Engagement offers to current and former players. The NFL Sports Journalism and Radio Boot Camp was developed through a partnership between the BGSU School of Media and Communications and Human Movement, Sport and Leisure Studies, as well as the Richard A. Maxwell Sport Media Project and NFL Player Engagement.
