October 15 Event to Benefit National Football League Foundation
October 4, 2013 – More than 35 former NFL players will take to the golf course on October 15 to play in the NFL Foundation Super Bowl XLVIII Celebrity Golf Classic at the Upper Montclair Country Club in Clifton, New Jersey.
Three members of the 1965 and 1966 NFL Champion Green Bay Packers — PAUL HORNUNG, JIM TAYLOR and JERRY KRAMER — will join former New York Giants and Jets players as well as other NFL legends in the 28th annual golf tournament that will benefit the NFL Foundation.
Other former NFL players who will captain foursomes include Pro Football Hall of Famers JOHN RANDLE and CHRIS DOLEMAN of the Minnesota Vikings, plus GARO YEPREMIAN, who played on back-to-back Super Bowl champion Miami Dolphins teams, including the 1972 undefeated team. Also in the field will be two defensive standouts of the 1977 Super Bowl Champion Dallas Cowboys, ED “TOO TALL” JONES and THOMAS “HOLLYWOOD” HENDERSON.
A number of Giants and Jets alumni will serve as captains, including: JOHN BAKER, RALPH BAKER, ERICH BARNES, EMERSON BOOZER, SCOTT BRUNNER, GREG BUTTLE, CHRIS CALLOWAY, CHAD CASCADDEN, KARL CHANDLER, AL DIXON, JEFF FEAGLES, GLENN FOLEY, BRUCE HARPER, DAVE HERMAN, BYRON HUNT, GARY JETER, BRIAN KELLEY, JOE KLECKO, SEAN LANDETA, LEONARD MARSHALL, CURTIS MCGRIFF, BART OATES, DAVE O’BRIEN, SEAN O’HARA, LEE ROUSON, BRIAN SAXTON, LANCE SMITH and CHRIS WARD.
Longtime New York sports broadcaster SPENCER ROSS will serve as emcee.
Citi is the primary donor for the event. Citi, a proud partner of the 2014 NY/NJ Super Bowl Host Committee, also will honor the Wounded Warrior Project by hosting veterans from the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center as its guests.
