One-Game Suspension for Dashon Goldson Reduced to $100,000 Fine on Appeal

Matt Birk, the hearing officer in the appeal of Dashon Goldson of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of his one-game suspension, has reduced the discipline to a $100,000 fine.

Birk is jointly appointed and compensated by the NFL and NFL Players Association to hear and decide appeals for on-field player discipline.

Goldson was suspended for one game without pay on Monday by NFL Vice President of Football Operations Merton Hanks for a flagrant and repeat violation of the rule prohibiting helmet-to-helmet hits against defenseless players.

Birk also upheld the $30,000 fine issued to Goldson for a Week 1 violation of player safety rules in a game against the New York Jets.
