NEW SONGS FROM DARIUS RUCKER, JORDIN SPARKS, SAMMY HAGAR & JOE SATRIANI, HINDER AND JAMES DURBIN FORM THE NEW SOUNDTRACK OF THE NFL
The NFL and Banshee Music have partnered to establish a new platform of proprietary NFL Music that will be featured throughout various league and team communication channels in 2011 and beyond. The debut five-song collection, Official Gameday Music of the NFL, offers tracks from today’s hottest musicians who pay tribute to the game they love.
Music plays a significant role in the sporting event experience, and the Official Gameday Music of the NFL lets fans bring home the energy of the game. The inaugural release features singles from Darius Rucker, Sammy Hagar and Joe Satriani of Chickenfoot, rock onslaught Hinder, American Idol favorite James Durbin and singer/songwriter Jordin Sparks. Sparks’ father is former NFL cornerback Phillippi Sparks and her song, “You Gotta Want It,” is a track destined to be heard inside NFL stadiums. Each song is loosely themed around the NFL and its teams while leaving the creative process to the individual artists.
“We are pleased to be working with Banshee Music and a roster of acclaimed musicians to develop songs that will capture the passion for our teams and our game” said Tracy Perlman, the NFL’s vice president of entertainment marketing and promotions. “The NFL Music platform will allow our fans to bring the musical excitement of being at the stadium back home or on the road all year long.”
“There are two times of year for me: football season and waiting for football season, so to be able to write something that pays tribute to the NFL was an honor and a thrill,” said Darius Rucker. “Music and sports are two of my biggest passions. I’m grateful that the NFL liked my song enough to use it and am excited to share it with football and music fans everywhere.”
In addition to the initial league-wide compilation, each of the NFL teams is able to work with Banshee on the localized level. These tracks will feature a mix of national and locally recognized artists and will be entirely unique to each market. The Denver Broncos are already taking the field to the Banshee developed “Mile High,” while the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are celebrating touchdowns this season to the new, custom Bucs track, “We Are the Buccaneers.”
“We’ve created a model that gives the NFL and its teams more rights and flexibility in the music licensing process,” Banshee Music founder Gary Reynolds said. “Nearly every artist we meet is a diehard NFL fan, so connecting the dots to bring all parties together and develop original music content was the logical next step.”
